80’s (Summer Bunny)

1/14/2007 By Mishka in General, Illustration Friday, Seasonal Bunnies Tags: bunny

80's

This piece finally completes my bunny series. Ok ok. I admit it, I’m cheating. Today I finished “Summer Bunny” and as it is Summer (in my picture, though with this winter, it’s truly hard to say…), the temperature must be up in the ’80s.

The tree in this image has become a “Rag-Tree” or a “Clootie Tree” as they call it in Scotland. In most cases, the tree would be near a holy well like the tree above the Chalice Well in Glastonbury. If there is a holy well on this hill, I believe we (the viewer) must be standing in it!

Quiet (Spring Bunny!)

This is funny. I have discovered I have to act like it’s spring in order to get the right feeling inside me in order to paint a spring image. I did this with winter too. “Art-Acting!” Stay tuned for Summer Bunny.

My friend, Christel, and I were comparing notes tonight on artist’s stumbling blocks while I was painting. I am learning so much from just the actual DOING of art… once I got beyond step 1, which is that not every piece will be a masterpiece (Accept that and stop trying to edit yourself while you’re drawing. Just let it come out. Sometimes it’s better than you could have possibly expected. Sometimes it fights with you. Just get it done and move on to the next).

Edit: 9.29.06 Jason says that Spring Bunny is perfect for Illustration Friday’s topic, “Quiet,” this week and insisted I submit it.

Also, just a quick opinion poll… Do you like the chick the way he is or should I change him so he’s also watching the sunset?

Change

change After I finished last week’s challenge, I thought it would be fun to try and break the image out into four seasons. Because I was going to do this anyway, I’m cheating a little with my Illustration Friday challenge. In this case, I changed my last image (I actually redrew it completely) and the seasons have also changed. My friend, Jamie, says the bunny needs an argyle scarf. I’m thinking about it. I’m also thinking about using this image for my holiday card this year.

Farm

I couldn’t stand it anymore, I’m boring myself. I wanted to do something in color again. So I stayed up late and finished this little one off tonight. Dayjob may suffer a little for it in the morning but oh well. I got inspired by the cornfields of Delaware to my east and the Blue Ridge Mountains to my west, the coming of autumn, and yes, a bunny.

Flight of the Valkyries

Flight of the Valkyrie

This is my first entry for “Inspire-Me-Thursday” Current challenge: Abstract Art

From Norse mythology, the Valkyries chose the most heroic of those who had died in battle and carried them to Valhalla.
